Every Friday (PHT), we will setup a post to allow discussions of everything related to handheld games. It can be about the present hardware systems such as the Vita and the 3DS, but can also be about older systems such as the PSP, DS, Gameboy, or even the Virtual Boy.
This post aims to gather gamers of all handheld types. Well, if you feel like it, you can boast about your favorite handheld or your newly acquired game! The rules are pretty loose, so if it fits on the handheld category, what you're going to say is probably okay.

Do you think publishers are starting to leave Nintendo?
ReplyDeleteYou mean the Yatagarasu incident? I highly doubt it... It's still too early to think that, since it's still only one game... Although there's a possibility, but the 3DS' 2014 lineup seems promising... However, as long as Nintendo requires licensing for releasing games for the 3DS, it greatly hinders many aspiring independent developers from making games for them... On the other hand, Vita, who's got tons of indies, are discouraging some 3rd party developers from releasing simply because of how well received indie games are nowadays, and that they feel like there are more to compete with...
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but some Wii U incidents also seem to reflect on Nintendo in general. It's not just the incident with Nicalis, n-Space also said that they won't be developing games for the 3DS anymore. That's two publishers already for the Nintendo 3DS alone!

ReplyDeleteDo you think that the number of Indie games on the Vita affect the quality of games? I have nothing against indie games.. but they are not as good as the real third party games.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible with gaming news so I have no idea about that. Two devs do seem a bit disturbing, but I have faith that it can still recover.

Sorry but I'd have to disagree with this. Indie games, though lacking in budget, can be just as good as big shot titles if executed well. This may not be handheld related, but remember that Portal was once an indie game...
ReplyDeleteAlthough maybe you might be one of those gamers who prefer games with flashy graphics? That's totally fine, though... Graphics is still a pretty important part of a game, after all, for drawing in players...
Yes of course there are games that turn out to be AAA quality. But for most Indie games about 90 look like college projects.
ReplyDeleteWell, you do have a point when you compare in percentage, but I don't think you should. With today's technology, anyone can be an indie dev. Those who do become AAA games, however, get to play in the big leagues. All you have to do is judge wisely and not to get fooled by the graphics. I'm a sucker for anime-like art-style so I wait for reviews and judge them from gameplay/let's play videos.
