PS Vita Release Date Announced

The PS Vita Release date has been officially announced by Sony. It will hit the North American, Australian, Latin, and Europe markets on February 22, 2012.

Through the US PlayStation blog,  Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) President & CEO Jack Tretton said:

"For those looking to get their hands on the ultimate in handheld entertainment, I’m thrilled to let you know that starting on February 22, 2012, PS Vita will be available at major retailers in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe."

He also noted that they have more than 100 games currently in development globally some of which include:

• Sound Shapes
• Resistance: Burning Skies
• Uncharted Golden Abyss
• Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
• Assassin’s Creed
• EA Sports’ FIFA
• Call of Duty

Some words about social applications have also been mentioned to help connect with friends and fellow PS Vita owners such as Facebook, foursquare, Skype, and Twitter.

The PS Vita will be released in Japan come December 17, 2011.
