At the Eurogamer Expo in London, Oddworld Inhabitants' Lorne Lanning talked about Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty!
Aside from the new HD graphics, some more visual enhancements such as dynamic lighting and other techniques have been applied to the game. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty basically maintains the side-scrolling nature of the original, but everything you see in there are in 3D. Camera movements have also been added where the camera rotates to a certain degree.
New N' Tasty makes decision making to stay put or run away easier with the elimination of flip screen scrolling. The puzzles and level design are about 80 to 90 percent of the original game.
All FMV's (Full Motion Videos) in the game are rendered in real-time. Stewart Gilray expressed that they avoided putting the term HD on the title to avoid giving the impression that the game was simply up-resed. Gilray stressed that the game was being built from scratch.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee originally came out for the PSOne back in 1997. Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee New N’ Tasty is currently in development and will be coming out in Q4 of 2013. The above screenshots are from the game's pre-alpha stage.
The game will be coming out on several platforms such as the PC, PS3, XBox 360 and PlayStation Vita. Nothing specific mentioned about the Vita version so far though. Be sure to subscribe to our mailing list and we'll be sure to let you know as soon we know more.
